The Great Misophonic Orchestra_ lyrics, vocals
A writer, a playwright, she debuted in 2002 with White and Red (Snow White and Russian Red in the USA). Two years later, she published Paw królowej (literally: The Queen’s Peacock) which won the NIKE literary award. In 2012, Nasza Oficyna published her third novel Kochanie, zabiłam nasze koty (Darling, I’ve Killed Our Cats), and in 2015 – a collection of quasi-culinary editorials Więcej niż możesz zjeść (More Than You Can Eat). In 2013, Wydawnictwo Literackie published Dusza światowa (Worldly Soul), an account of a long interview with her. A year later – Jak zostałam wiedźmą (How I Became A Witch), a book for kids and adults alike.
Her play A Couple of Poor, Polish-Speaking Romanians has been staged in Australia, the USA, and on Sakhalin. The play Między nami dobrze jest (It’s Fine Between Us) from 2008, which had been commissioned by the TR Warszawa theatre, won an award from the minister of culture.
In 2014, Dorota Masłowska released her debut album Społeczeństwo jest niemiłe (Society Is Not Nice). She admitted that crossing the line between literature and songwriting was to give her new rhetoric possibilities and be an act of liberation:
My original genre will always be literature, but its business aspect has worn me out. I really think that the Polish society is anything but nice. But I can’t write a book about it, because I hate the socially-engaged literature. Here, I could express how I feel about roadside prostitutes, their pimps, money, and fast cars. I felt free and happy.
