Joanna Bielawska

The Great Misophonic Orchestra_ lyrics, vocals, guitar

Born in 1990 in Gdansk, she’s currently residing in Poznań. Graduating from the University of Gdansk (American studies), she’s now doing a course in interactive media and performance at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. She sings, plays the guitar, and writes songs. In 2012, she released her debut album Miserable Miaow showing her fascination with classic songwriting, acoustic arrangements and electronic influences, which translated into a collection of wistful and weighty songs. She performs under the moniker of Asia i Koty – she is responsible for the songwriting, electric guitar duties, and the loopers. Bielawska deals in minimalist songwriting embellished with complex harmonies and mantra-like repetitions. The main ingredient in her recipe is the voice – expressive, clear, and mature. Her music is all about contradictions: the subtlety versus the sinister mood; classic songwriting versus musical experiments. Apart from that, she has so far released four albums with Folder. After releasing her debut album, she has made guest appearances on Nasiono Swap Singers, and Karol Schwarz All Stars’ Hi, Mom!; she contributed to two editions of the Pure Phase Ensemble project (during the first and the third edition of the SpaceFest festival). She also has two other electronic projects underway: the ambient noise synthesizer/guitar duo, Morgaine Fay; and a techno project, Kthx NFZ.
